Ultimate Real Budget for India

how much it costs
Ultimate real india budget

Are you visiting India and you want to know how much everything costs? This is the Ultimate Budget for India – with real prices!

Yeah I had that problem too. I searched everywhere online and couldn’t find any hint of real prices. So I’ve decided to gather all the info during my trip and give it to the World in this Ultimate Budget for India post.

Obviously some prices depend on the city you are and on your bargain capacities (I risk to say I’m pretty good at that). I’ll put all the prices in Rupees ₹ so everyone can convert to their own coin.

So let’s start…

Food

  • Main dish – 70 to 150 ₹ or 300 ₹ at Hotels
  • Side dishes like naan or rice – 50 to 80 ₹
  • Street snacks – 20 to 50 ₹
  • Average dinner for 2 – from 400 to 1500 ₹
  • Beer – 200 ₹ at restaurant/cafe, 100 to 150 ₹ at store

  • Water – 50 to 100 ₹
  • Tobacco – 300 ₹

Hotels and Transport

  • Hotels – You can find it has cheap as 100 to 200 ₹ and up to 2000 ₹
  • Rickshaws – 50 to 150 ₹ – inside towns distances
  • Boat at Varanasi – 200 to 300 ₹ 1h for 2 people
  • Metro airport Delhi – 60 ₹
  • Metro Delhi – 30 ₹
  • Renting car + driver – This varies immensely, from the company/car/amount of days you want. We manage to get 385 ₹ a day. We did a 7 day tour – total 27000 ₹. In the end you should tip them. We tipped the amount of 1 extra day.

Clothes and souvenirs

saari cost india
This beautiful silk saari cost just 200 ₹ (3$ 2,5€)
  • Saari – 100 to 200 ₹ in Clock market in Jodhpur. All other places they ask you way more. But After knowing you can get them this cheap you can totally bargain for it.
  • Leather backpack – 1200 ₹
  • Cashmere – 300 to 700 ₹ . Again after knowing I could get them for 300 I started bargain. These aren’t 100% cashmere, they are mixed with silk, so they are cheaper.
  • Shoes – sandals – 200 ₹
  • Henna – 50 ₹
  • Bindis – 20 ₹

These are affiliate links which means that I get a percentage if you buy any of them, without any extra cost to you. I always like to suggest related things to my posts so even if you can’t travel you can have a taste of India in your home. And it helps keeping the blog up 🙂

  • Necklaces and bracelets – 50 to 100 ₹
  • Dresses – 300 ₹ with fitting (they are amazing and they fix dresses to fit perfectly on you)
  • Baggy pants – 200 ₹

Jaipur

  • Amber fort – 500 ₹
  • City Palace – 700 ₹
  • Jantar Mantar – 200 ₹

Could it get more easy and specific than this?

We traveled to India in the end of March 2019, so prices may change in other seasons or years. And since you need to bargain for things you may get cheaper or more expensive things. But feel free to use this info to bargain your way to cheaper things. It’s very effective to say “sorry I’ve bought that in another town for 300 ₹ so I’m not paying 700 ₹” 😉
